for cello solo, 2 violins, viola & b. c., edited by Markus Möllenbeck with a piano reduction by Ulrich Lüdering. A pair of concertos by the Schwerin court composer Hertel date from 1755 and 1759, and these are both notable additions to the cello repertory. Stylistically, they are similar to C.P.E. Bach's three cello concertos from around the same time period. While Hertel's Concerto in A Minor (EW398) is very dramatic, the present work in the major mode (duration 15') strikes a more intimate tone and ends with a delicate minuet.
