product description
transcribed for viola da gamba solo by Thomas Fritzsch. The Præludium ex C BWV 846, with which Bach opened Das Wohltemperirte Clavier in 1722, uses the same notation that Bach uses to arpeggiate the chords in the Prélude of the G major Suite BWV 1007 for violoncello solo senza basso: One harmony per bar. If we transfer the Præludium to the viola da gamba, (almost) every single note of a harmony has its own string, which means that the resonance of the viola da gamba is in no way inferior to that of the harpsichord: We hear harmonies.
