product description

for 2 violins, 2 violas, basso & b. c., as first edition edited and reconstructed by Peter Holman. Bach scholars believe that Johann Sebastian Bach was exposed to Georg Böhm’s music while studying in Lüneburg at the age of 14, where Böhm served as organist. Bach likely also took lessons from him; in any case, there is evidence that Bach’s music was influenced by Böhm. The renowned musicologist Peter Holman is convinced that this suite was originally written for orchestra and that the (only) surviving score is merely a piano arrangement. He substantiates this hypothesis in his insightful foreword and explains why he has reconstructed the presumed original orchestral version. The result is a thoroughly rewarding piece with a cheerful character and moderate level of difficulty. Edition Güntersberg
