product description
for cello solo, 2 violins, viola, & b. c., edited by Markus Möllenbeck, piano reduction by Ulrich Lüdering.
Urtext edition, Series Il Violoncello concertato
The editor has so far published 12 of Vivaldi's cello concertos in critical editions: RV 398 (in C), 401 (in c), 405 (in d), 409 (in e), 410 (in F), 413 (in G), 414 (in G), 417 (in g), 418 (in a), 419 (in a), 424 (in b), 531 (in g for 2 Vc).
For a long time, no performance material was available that met source-critical standards.
This challenging concerto was later adapted by Vivaldi for the traverso flute (RV 438), providing insight into his work methods when he revisits a piece and arranges it for a different instrument.
In this original version of the cello concerto, Vivaldi’s composition requires some demanding tasks for the left hand of the cellist: the varied rhythmic ideas leave less room for lyrical playing and instead require, for example, constant shifting of the left hand or the use of violin fingerings in higher positions or thumb position.
Vivaldi employs all of his musical and rhetorical devices, as demonstrated by the overall virtuosic nature of this concerto.
Range of the solo part: F sharp - d2, high level of difficulty, the strings in the set of parts: Solo-2-2-1-2 Bassi
CD recordings by soloists as Christophe Coin, Raphael Wallfisch, Christine Walevska, Petre Skalka and others
