product description
for 2 cellos, 2 violins, viola, & b. c., edited by Markus Möllenbeck, piano reduction by Ulrich Lüdering.
Urtext edition, Series Il Violoncello concertato
The editor has so far published 12 of Vivaldi's cello concertos in critical editions: RV 398 (in C), 401 (in c), 405 (in d), 409 (in e), 410 (in F), 413 (in G), 414 (in G), 417 (in g), 418 (in a), 419 (in a), 424 (in b), 531 (in g for 2 Vc).
For a long time, no performance material was available that met source-critical standards.
The second edition of this famous double concerto, popular with amateurs and professionals alike, features an improved layout and a revised critical commentary, including some important performance notes for the outer movements.
By omitting an introductory ritornello at the beginning of the first movement, Vivaldi achieves something truly remarkable here: the two solos dominate the musical proceedings from the very beginning, almost pushing the tutti in the ritornellos into the background. The slow movement, accompanied only by basso continuo, with its languishing, plaintive sighs, offers enormous scope for expressive singing by the soloists, while the third movement demands speed and agility. It’s a recurring favorite device in Vivaldi’s compositions!
Range of the solo part: D - a1, intermediate level of difficulty, the strings in the set of parts: Soli-2-2-1-2 Bassi
CD recordings by soloists as Christophe Coin, Raphael Wallfisch, Julian Lloyd Webber and others
