product description

for cello solo, 2 violins, viola, & b. c., edited by Markus Möllenbeck, piano reduction by Ulrich Lüdering.

Urtext edition, Series Il Violoncello concertato

The editor has so far published 12 of Vivaldi's cello concertos in critical editions: RV 398 (in C), 401 (in c), 405 (in d), 409 (in e), 410 (in F), 413 (in G), 414 (in G), 417 (in g), 418 (in a), 419 (in a), 424 (in b), 531 (in g for 2 Vc).

For a long time, no performance material was available that met source-critical standards.

The special feature of this concert lies in its score arrangement: it is scored for three parts, with the second part either performed by the violin, the viola, or for both the violin and viola. It is possibly one of the earliest concertos by the Venetian composer. The overall character is serious and dark. The third movement, in 3/8 time signature, is a typical final movement for Vivaldi, and demands great agility from the soloist due to larger leaps and thirty-second note passages.

Range of the solo part: C - a flat1, intermediate level of difficulty, the strings in the set of parts: Solo-2-2-1-2 Bassi

CD recordings by soloists as Sol Gabetta, Christophe Coin, Roel Dieltens, Raphael Wallfisch, Heinrich Schiff and others
