Händel, Georg Friedrich (1685– 1759): The Sonatas for Recorder

Händel, Georg Friedrich (1685– 1759): The Sonatas for Recorder

Product.Nr.: EW903

complete edition in four volumes for recorder & b. c, edited by Michael Schneider and Panagiotis Linakis. The present new edition of Handel’s recorder sonatas differs from earlier publications primarily in the way in which the basso continuo is realized, which is by no means ‘in the simplest possible form’ but takes into account current knowledge about the art of the basso continuo accompaniment in Handel’s time. Like with few other compositions of the High Baroque, the variety of the structures and progressions indicated by the bass, and their compositional realization on a keyboard instrument is evidently fundamental to the idea of these sonatas.

Abel, Carl Friedrich (1732–1787): Six Quartets op. 12 – Score

Abel, Carl Friedrich (1732–1787): Six Quartets op. 12 – Score

Product.Nr.: G347

for flute (violin), violin, viola and violoncello, edited by Günter and Leonore von Zadow. Abel’s op. 12 were first published in London in 1774. They are written for string quartet. The first part however – with the exception of the fifth quartet – is also intended for flute so that the op. 12 can also be designated as flute quartets. The quartets are distinguished by catchy, often songlike themes that linger long in the memory. The large number of prints and manuscript copies in which these quartets are transmitted clearly shows how popular and frequently played this music was during Abel’s time. Edition Güntersberg

Eberlin, Daniel (1647–1714/15): Sonate à 2 Violini e Cembalo

Eberlin, Daniel (1647–1714/15): Sonate à 2 Violini e Cembalo

Product.Nr.: EB3192

La Favorita and La Eminenza (Rost Manuscript No. 149 and 150, Trium mirifice variantium ... Nuremberg 1675), for 2 violins and harpsichord, edited as first edition by Mihoko Kimura. Several vocal works and the six trio sonatas ‘’Trium mirifice variantium ...“ (Nuremberg 1675) are all that have come down to us of Daniel Eberlin. The sonatas were published in three separate printed part-books but unfortunately the two violin part-books were lost, leaving extant only the harpsichord partbook. Fortunately, two of the six sonatas also appear in the ‘’Rost manuscript” so that we can now publish at least those two sonatas. Both trio sonatas are highly varied, as well as technically and musically engaging. The solo passages for first or second violin are interesting and exciting, teeming with fast passages and tempo shifts. Edition Offenburg
